Exciting plans are on the drawing board for the Smith Mountain Lake 2008 Business EXPO. Slated for Friday, April 25, this year's fifth-annual event will take place at Downtown Moneta and will be located on a large parcel adjacent to the Mayberry Hills development. "We're excited by the prospect of holding the EXPO in its new location," said Vicki Gardner, the chamber's executive director. "The Downtown Moneta site allows us to hold the EXPO and parking all in one location. Shuttle busses used to transport our guests at previous events but won't be necessary for our participating businesses or the public this year. Convenience makes it easy for our guests to attend and that's what it's all about," she said. Chamber members who have been a part of the EXPO say the one-day event gives them valuable exposure to new lake area residents as well as people who have been long-established within the fabric of the community. A myriad of firms are expected to represent Bedford, Franklin, Pittsylvania and other counties in the region. Free to the public, the one-day EXPO will be open from Noon to 6:30 p.m. Complimentary lunch for all attending will be served from Noon to 1:30 p.m. Last year, a record-breaking crowd of more than 3,000 attended. Door prizes - all donated by members of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce - will be drawn and given away to EXPO guests throughout the day. Last year's prizes totaled more than $10,000. "One of our key goals of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber is to encourage residents -- as well as visitors -- to do business with our local firms in the many communities in the Smith Mountain Lake area," Vicki Gardner said.
